Background
Meta General Pipeline Initiative was tasked to address internal team communication and collaboration issues and seek opportunities to enhance productivity in collaboration with stakeholders.
As The Lead UX/UI Designer:
-
Developed feasible solutions for upper management to effectively oversee project progress.
-
Established a clear feedback loop between teams, improving communication and collaboration.
-
Introduced innovative user testing methods to overcome challenges in user testing and usability recruitment.
-
Collaborated with the art team to integrate a design system, ensuring cohesive and uniform designs.
-
Implemented the pipeline into tests, ensuring smooth coordination with agile development practices.
Unclear feedback loop between UX and Design
The UX and design teams often fail to work together effectively due to communication issues, leading to inefficient development and wasted resources.
Recruitment of external testers Was prohibited due to the NDA
Not being able to access external user data weakens product development, leading to high failure rates in feature development and harming long-term product strategies.
UI and Art collaboration suffered due to a lack of workflow structure
Duplication of work happened between Art and UI due to the lack of communication and standard pipeline, resulting in duplicated effort and inconsistent product features.
Run discovery Workshop to structure high-level user flows
The high-level user flow was conducted to carry out user test with game designers. This approach addressed asking engineers invested too much of their time before building a feature inside the metaverse.
This user flow was an example from the project Meta Horizon Worlds Population: One.
Standardize Methods in defining problems
I successfully introduced and advocated for the use of a hypothesis-driven workflow as a standard method for problem definition within the team. This approach facilitated better alignment between the UX and Game teams, leading to an improved understanding of user problems and needs.
Post-workshop to disseminate user data and findings
The data and findings dissemination workshop ended with the SWOT analysis, which was found to effectively help teams form new goals for the next sprints and build empathy among team members.
This SWOT analysis example is from the project Meta Horizon Worlds Population: One.
Integrated RITE method in Usability Testing
The RITE (Rapid Iterative Testing and Evaluation) method was used to create a rapid iteration when effectively used with the UX role-play method. This type of test doesn't require participants to test many features at once, enabling designers to make quick judgments and implement changes immediately. This also reserves external testing resources for future needs.
This is RITE testing template.
Integrated UX Role-play Method
To address the gap of being unable to obtain external testing data, I utilized the UX role-play method to validate the accuracy of the obtained data and to generate insights regarding the identified problems.

This shown that the test was carried out for the role-play method.
Impact
-
Successfully drafted and visualized the pipeline through journey maps and flowcharts, enhancing synchronization and collaboration between management and the team.
-
Implemented UX role-play methods and RITE testing to overcome external user recruitment challenges despite NDA restrictions.
-
Initiated a design system using Figma’s component library, ensuring UI design consistency and streamlining collaboration across teams.
-
Scaled the pipeline for larger projects, supporting a team of over 25 individuals across multiple Horizon Worlds games and social experiences

Created a global style guide
The global style guide was established through collaboration between the art and UI teams. This decision to integrate a general style guide has had a significant impact on reducing ambiguity in design decisions.
